|Title||:||High And The Mighty (tiomkin-movie theme) - USC Chanteclairs (Chorale) -Pgh (Lovely!)'''|
|Description||:|| This is one of my favorite pieces by Dimitri Tiomkin, a sought after film composer in the 50’s. Our recording by the Chanteclairs was in 1972. I auditioned the Chantecliars for the “whistling” part but no one had the high notes that the piece required. SOOOO, during the performance I whistled with my back to the audience – it is my whistling debut on the recording. During the performance, one of the Chanteclairs mouthed like he was whistling, and I guess, even today, the audience would have thought that he did the whistling. I really loved this piece and the Chanteclairs did a wonderful job. Thank you all, Mr. G. |
Something about the song follows:
Composer Dimitri Tiomkin scored the film and composed the theme song "The High and the Mighty" in 1954. The theme song was also called "The Whistling Song" because John Wayne whistled the tune during production. Tiomkin's music for the film topped hit parade charts and remained there for weeks, increasing the profile of the film itself. A 1955 national survey of disc jockeys labeled the song as the "most whistleable tune." The song's "haunting strains" were played on the radio and on recordings in the years after the film's release. It was nominated for Academy Award consideration for "Best Song".
